Initially, Nissan had planned to commence deliveries of the 2022 Nissan Ariya in May to August 2021, with Japan being the first market. However, due to a component shortage, the release date has been pushed back to this coming winter. In the United States, the SUV is expected to hit dealerships in early 2022.

How Much Will the Nissan Ariya Cost?

According to Nissan, the 2022 Nissan Ariya will have a starting price tag of about $40,000 when it sells in America next year. While it’s significantly more expensive than the Leaf, the SUV’s pricing is competitive compared to that of its upcoming competitors, such as the Hyundai Kona Electric, Volkswagen ID.4, and Tesla Model Y. If you opt for an Ariya with the larger battery and all-wheel drive, it’ll likely cost you close to $50,000.

What We Know About the 2022 Nissan Ariya So Far

The all-new Nissan Ariya is a well-made electric crossover that impresses almost every department, from driving range to ride comfort. It’s a versatile vehicle that can meet the transportation needs of a wide range of drivers. So let’s take a closer look at this next-generation Nissan SUV.

Dimensions

Measuring 182.9 inches long, 74.8 inches wide, and 65.4 inches high, the Nissan Ariya is about the same size as the Nissan Rogue and is 0.1 inches shorter and more than 2 inches wider than its gasoline-powered stablemate. Also, its wheelbase is 2.8 inches longer than that of the Rogue.

Styling

The 2022 Nissan Ariya is markedly different from other models in the latest Nissan lineup in terms of outward appearance. This is because it adopts a new design theme called Timeless Japanese Futurism. As a result, it exudes a perfect blend of powerfulness, elegance, and simplicity, which is easily relatable to Japanese vehicle designs.

The Ariya features a sleek silhouette and smooth surfaces that give it a sporty, futuristic appearance. One of the most distinctive styling features of this SUV is its “aerodynamic shield,” which replaces a traditional grille and bears an illuminated Nissan logo that contributes to a sci-fi feel. In addition, thin, horizontal LED headlights comprising four mini-projectors and drop-down LED daytime running lights make the crossover even more recognizable.

Along the sides, black underbody cladding, pronounced fender flares, and chunky alloy wheels add a touch of ruggedness to the Ariya. The SUV’s arched roof-line quickly slopes downward toward the rear, where it merges flawlessly into the deck. The taillights have a blackened treatment that makes them as dramatic as the front ones.

The Nissan Ariya comes standard with 19-inch wheels, but you can opt for the available 20-inch wheels.

Performance and Range

Besides being a stunning-looking crossover, the 2022 Nissan Ariya also delivers punchy performance with its potent powertrains, with two powertrain configurations for you to choose from. When equipped with only one electric motor and front-wheel drive, the SUV can generate 215 horsepower and 221 pound-of torque. That’s enough for a good zero-to-60-mph time of 7.5 seconds and a maximum speed of 100 mph.

The dual-motor version works with Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive system to produce 389 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. It enables the Ariya to sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in a mere 5.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 124.2 mph.

The Nissan Ariya’s driving range varies depending on whether it’s fitted with the standard 65-kWh battery or the optional 90-kWh battery. According to the results of a Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) test in Japan, this crossover can travel up to 279.6 miles on a single charge with the smaller battery and 379 miles with the larger battery. Even with its standard battery, the Ariya has a considerably longer range than the Leaf.

Interior

On the inside, the Nissan Ariya features a unique design that lays a foundation for future Nissan vehicles. Adopting the dedicated BEV platform, the SUV has a flat floor that contributes to an uninterrupted cabin, resulting in easier interaction between front and rear occupants. The dashboard looks sleek and merges seamlessly with the door panels, aligning with the vehicle’s minimalist and cohesive interior styling. The main climate control functions are integrated into the center dash with capacitive haptic switches.

Instead of the traditional three-spoke steering wheel, the Ariya comes with a fancy two-spoke unit, which accentuates its “less is more” design philosophy. Located within easy reach of the driver, a 12.3-inch touch-screen display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster make it clear that this crossover is by no means an entry-level product. Soft-touch surfaces, wood trim, and ambient lighting add to the premium feel inside.

With a seating capacity of five, the Nissan Ariya offers unparalleled comfort with its Zero-Gravity seats. These seats are specially designed to minimize fatigue, providing optimal relaxation on long journeys. Due to their slim profile, they also increase legroom and headroom for rear passengers.

Another notable feature of this new Nissan SUV is its available ProPilot Assist 2.0. This driver-assistance system makes driving more convenient and safer with functionalities such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane centering. It’s also capable of performing automated lane changing and passing on the highway.

Although the 2022 Nissan Ariya won’t arrive in dealerships until next year, you can book a test drive with Rydell Nissan of Grand Forks in advance. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need more information about this excellent electric SUV.
