When you’re looking for something fun to do on the weekend, consider visiting these four attractions in West Fargo. Whether you’re taking the whole family out, or you simply want to enjoy some quiet time with a loved one, these amazing venues are sure to keep you and those with you interested and entertained for hours.

Red River Zoo

The Red River Zoo was founded in 1993 with a mission to connect the West Fargo community to nature and inspire people to help save endangered species. This wildlife park features many amazing animals from around the world with similar environments to the Red River Valley. Red River Zoo also specializes in the care and breeding of many of the world’s most unique and unusual cold climate species.

  • The Sichuan Takin lives in the forest and bamboo groves of Western China as well as the nearby mountain ranges. While some people think the Takin looks like a cross between a moose and a wildebeest, this animal is most closely related to sheep and goats.
  • Pallas Cats live in dens, rock crevices, and burrows of the steppe regions of Central Asia. They are about the same size as a large house cat with a coat that varies from light gray to brown.
  • The Chinese Red Panda is native to the mountain slopes of the eastern Himalayas of India, Nepal, and Myanmar as well as southwestern China. Though this animal is called the Red Panda, it looks much more like a large raccoon with rusty red fur and dark brown fur on its belly.

Ticket prices range from free for children under two years old to $11.25 for adults. Tickets for children ages 2 – 14 are $8.75 and tickets for seniors are $10.25 each.

For the aviation buff, the Fargo Air Museum is a thrilling and exciting attraction. It was founded in 2001 as a non-profit organization to promote aviation through education, preservation, and restoration. The Fargo Air Museum features two hangars with a rotating selection of various aircraft displays, such as the Pitts Special or the North American P-51 D Mustang.

The museum is host to monthly educational day-camps, speakers, and seminars for aeronautic fans of all ages. Be sure to visit their gift shop that features toys, clothes, books, and more.

Admission for children ages 5 – 11 is $6. Students, military personnel, veterans, and senior tickets are $8. Adult tickets for ages 12 and up are $10 and children under four are free.

Bonanzaville

Bonanzaville is North Dakota’s must-see historic attraction. Owned and operated by the Cass County North Dakota Historical Society, Bonanzaville features 41 historic buildings with over 400,000 artifacts. The mission of Bonanzaville is to educate the community and others about North Dakota’s diverse history. There are three main ways to experience this historical village: stroll through Pioneer Village, take a walking tour, or view the current exhibits in the main museum.

Pioneer Village consists of 36 historical buildings that were all a part of North Dakota’s history. Arthur Town Hall was constructed in the early 1890s and moved to Bonanzaville in 1971. It was host to many community events, such as church services and town meetings. The blacksmith shop, which was originally located in Tower City, North Dakota, features many of its original furnishings and tools. The Brass Rail Saloon and Hotel was moved from Page, North Dakota, to Bonanzaville in 1971. As you walk through Pioneer village, you can view cafes, schools, shops, homes, and several other historical buildings.

A more recent way to experience Pioneer Village is through walking tours, powered by the Pocketsight app. Through the use of this app, you can experience even more detailed history, photos, and videos as you wander through the village. Currently, there are four walking tours to choose from: Agriculture Tour, Full Village Tour, Main Street Tour, and Technological Innovations of the 20th Century.

Bonanzaville’s main museum features a variety of exhibits for the North Dakota history buff. Company B Rides Free exhibit is a project of the North Dakota State University and details the story of the Company B of the First North Dakota Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish-American War. 100 Years of Women’s Suffrage honors the 100th anniversary of a woman’s right to vote in Cass County. Discover the history of Red River Valley Bonanza Farms through the Why Bonanzaville exhibit. Main Street, North Dakota, tells the story of various historical businesses on main streets throughout the Flickertail State.

Adult tickets are $12 and tickets for seniors or college students are $10.00. Tickets for students ages 6 – 16 are $6. Children under five and military personnel with ID are admitted free.

Children’s Museum at Yunker Farm

The Children’s Museum at Yunker Farm hosts over 50 hands-on exhibits that will engage and educate any child who visits. This interactive child-friendly museum is recognized as one of the top 25 children’s museums across the nation. Both parents and their children will have enormous amounts of fun in this educational farmhouse setting. With a wide variety of educational programs, special events, and outreach programs, there is always something fun to do at Yunker Farm.

The red-brick house that now holds the museum was first constructed in 1876. The Junior League of Fargo-Moorhead and the Fargo Park District led the way to renovating this old home into an interactive and engaging children’s museum. Through the hard work and generous contributions of these and other volunteers, renovations were made to the house, and the children’s museum was opened in 1985. Inside the newly renovated farmhouse, you’ll discover brightly painted rooms with building blocks, musical instruments, and a cow-milking station.

More than a museum, Yunker Farm is an educational farmhouse setting that is home to 55 acres of property. Strewn throughout the property you’ll find a miniature train, a carousel, a playground, a pumpkin patch, and several nature trails. The farm also features a miniature golf course, children’s alphabet garden, butterfly garden, dog park, and football field.
