Say hello to the newly re-imagined 2021 Nissan Rogue. The new Rogue has a bulked-up body that looks ready to tackle the most challenging terrain and a powertrain engineered to do just that. The Rogue’s available all-wheel-drive system lets you take the road less traveled on your next adventure. It comes loaded with the latest in-vehicle tech to keep you connected wherever the road leads and has all the comfort and convenience features to go there in style.

Nissan Rogue Towing Capacity

The Rogue comes in four trim levels, S, SV, SL, and Platinum. Every trim uses a capable front-wheel-drive system, or you can opt for the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version. The standard front-wheel-drive system on every Rogue trim can tow up to 1,102 pounds, while the AWD powertrain can handle up to 1,350 pounds. While this might not seem like a lot, you’d be surprised what you can tow.

Teardrop trailers have been gaining popularity over the last decade. Modern interior designs, small size and weight, and the lowering towing capacities of crossover SUVs have led to this rise. Teardrop trailers come in miniature versions of full-size campers. Some you can stand up in, others only sleep in, but they are all easy to tow.

They come in various sizes and designs. Many feature fold-out options and extensions that expand their uses. They can double as cargo haulers as well. You’ll never have a problem towing one with your Rogue because they don’t usually exceed 1,000 pounds.

Whether you’re after a cozy little space to sleep in while camping or you want functionality for cooking and more, there’s a teardrop trailer that will suit your needs. A surprising number of companies manufacture teardrop trailers, each putting their unique stamp on the design.

Tear Drop Types

The Pika from Timberleaf measures under 12 feet long, less than six feet tall, and weighs only 970 pounds, making it perfect for towing with your Rogue. It sleeps up to two people and has a flip-up section on one end that opens up an exterior kitchen. You can even outfit it with a mini refrigerator.

The DO-Drop offers custom designs for every customer, which means you get to build your ideal camper. Beds, shelves, and even skylights are available. The DO-Drop measures seven feet long and 3.5 feet tall. At 700 pounds, the DO-Drop goes with your Rogue wherever your adventurous life leads.

The inTech Flyer Chase may be one of the larger teardrop trailers on the market, yet it still weighs under 1,200 pounds. At over 12 feet long and six feet tall, there’s plenty of space. With the optional tent extension on one end that opens into the trailer, you can double your space.

The Droplet trailer offers mainly sleeping quarters on the inside, yet one end flips open to reveal a two-burner stove, sink, fridge, and shelving. At under 1,000 pounds, your Rogue can handle the load.

Stand-Up Options

You can find stand-up campers that your Rogue can tow, but they are harder to come by. The Little Guy Meerkat weighs in at under 1,000 pounds and stands over seven feet tall. The Tiny Camper 5×8 Standy weighs 1,000 pounds without a lot of options. It does have a couch, table, hardwood floors, and air conditioning, making it a worthwhile haul.

Tow With Confidence

If you’re towing a camper, you’ll head off the pavement at some point. You’ll want the Rogue’s AWD system that intelligently sends power to the wheels with the most traction. Additionally, the system switches to front-wheel drive when you’re cruising on the highway for improved economy. The AWD system features selectable drive modes that calibrate your steering, throttle, and suspension to the road conditions.

The Sport mode delivers a more thrilling driving experience through a tighter steering and more responsive throttle. A Snow mode helps you conquer wintry weather. The Auto mode makes your everyday drive smooth. Use the Eco mode when you’re on that road trip with your camper for optimal efficiency. Campers love the Off-Road mode, designed to conquer the terrain when you leave the pavement behind.

Powertrain

Every Rogue uses a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with continuously variable valve timing and direct injection technology. Paired with the Xtronic continuously variable transmission, this powertrain delivers 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. Nissan’s active ride control system smooths out the bumps in the road, and the hill-start assist system makes starting on a hill with a trailer more manageable than ever.

Trailer-Friendly Driver-Assist Systems

The Rogue comes with a suite of driver-assist technologies designed to elevate your driving experience and keep you safer. These systems are beneficial when towing a trailer. The suite includes an intelligent forward-collision warning system that watches two cars ahead for potential emergencies. When it detects sudden deceleration, the system warns you to brake. Should you fail to react, the automatic emergency braking system will engage emergency brake support to reduce a possible impact.

The blind-spot warning system uses sensors to detect when vehicles enter your blind spots. Now you can change lanes confidently, even with a trailer. This intelligent technology will provide gentle steering correction to help you avoid an accident. Front, side, and rear sonar systems help you navigate tight city streets or narrow campground tracks. The rear sonar features alerts and a rear camera with guidelines that will help you hitch up your trailer. You also get an intelligent lane-intervention system that tracks your Rogue while traveling within marked lanes. When the system detects an unintentional drift, it alerts you and provides subtle steering adjustments to help keep you centered.
