Rydell Nissan of Grand Forks

Nov 18, 2021

Nissan puts safety first in its vehicles by including an impressive array of features and technologies in each car. For example, these safety features help you stay in your lane, and they tell you when your tires are low or if someone approaches from behind as you reverse. At Rydell Nissan of Grand Forks, we want our customers to understand how these technologies help them enjoy their drives around Grand Forks, North Dakota, and surrounding areas. That is why we are looking at the Nissan Safety Suite and other safety technologies that Nissan puts into its cars.

Nissan Safety Shield 360

The Nissan Safety Shield 360 is a set of six safety technologies that are standard in the Nissan Rogue, Leaf, and Altima models. The suite of safety features, which is available as an option on most of the cars and trucks in Nissan’s lineup, includes:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection.

The automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection system gives you audio and visual alerts, and it applies the brakes to help you avoid a collision.
  • Rear Automatic Braking.

This system watches the area directly behind your car for stationary objects that you may not be able to see. When the system detects an object and recognizes that you’re not stopping, it can engage the brakes to help you avoid hitting what’s behind you or minimize the impact and damage to your car.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The Rear Cross Traffic Alert system covers the back of your car as you back out of a parking spot. It can detect approaching cars that might be out of your line of sight, and it enables you to stop in time.
  • Blind Spot Warning.

The Blind Spot Warning picks up on cars in your blind spot as you drive and look to change lanes. If the system detects a car, it alerts you with a chime so you can adjust accordingly.
  • Lane Departure Warning.

This system alerts you when you drift out of your lane and are seemingly unaware of your action. The car warns you that you’re about to leave the car lane without intent and helps you avoid a collision.
  • High Beam Assist.

The High Beam Assist turns off your high beams when it detects oncoming traffic, so you will not blind an oncoming driver by accident.

Next, we will look at the Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite.

Nissan Intelligent Mobility Safety Features

Nissan has more safety features available on all its cars to help you stay comfortable and in control during your daily drives. It’s known as Nissan Intelligent Mobility, and it is a suite of integrated safety technologies that assist you as you make various maneuvers and lane changes while driving. These safety features and technologies are available on all Nissan models.

  • Intelligent Forward Collision Warning.

This feature can “see” around two cars ahead of you and monitor the speed and distance of both cars. When the sensor detects sudden deceleration from either car, it warns you to slow down.
  • Intelligent Lane Intervention.

This feature works when the lane markings are visible, and it alerts you when you’re getting too close to the lane lines without making an intentional move or signaling. The feature also taps the brakes to get your attention and get you to move back in between the lane lines.
  • Intelligent Back-Up Intervention.

This feature can sense when a car is approaching as you reverse out of your parking spot. It works in concert with the RearView Monitor and casts a wider net of awareness beyond the range of the camera. You’ll know if someone’s coming even before you see them.
  • Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention.

Sometimes you will start changing lanes, but you can’t see if a car is in your blind spot. The Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention detects the car in your blind spot and engages when you’re at risk of interfering with the car in the other lane by applying the brakes and guiding you back into your lane.

Next, we will look at Nissan Advanced Safety Technologies.

Nissan Advanced Safety Technologies

Nissan’s cars come equipped with even more safety technologies, and these are standard in every vehicle. Nissan’s Advanced Safety Technologies include the following:

  • Nissan Advanced Air Bag System. The Advanced Air Bag System consists of dual-stage supplemental airbags with seat belt sensors, side-impact supplemental airbags built into the front seats, and roof-mounted curtain side-impact airbags to give head protection. The airbags adjust the rate of inflation based on the severity of the crash and seatbelt usage by the driver and passengers.
  • Zone Body Construction. Nissan designs and constructs its vehicles to absorb the impact of a collision and reduce the force that reaches the driver and passengers.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This system will tell you which tires are at low pressure and by how much.
  • Vehicle Dynamic Control. VDC recognizes when road conditions are slick, and it monitors your steering and braking. Vehicle Dynamic Control also responds to adverse road conditions by slowing down your car and applying brake pressure to specific wheels.
  • Traction Control System. The Traction Control System notices when your tires are spinning and responds by reducing speed and applying the brakes to the tires losing traction.

At Rydell Nissan of Grand Forks, we want you to enjoy your Nissan and drive safely. The safety technology developed by Nissan goes a long way towards preventing most collisions and reducing the impact of unavoidable collisions. That said, your tires serve as some of the best safety features on your car. When your tires wear out, come to our Service Center for replacement.
