Grafton, North Dakota, has plenty of delicious restaurants. Whether you feel like a quick lunch or a delicious dinner, there are lots of options. Here are some of the best places to eat in the Grafton area. 

The Toasted Frog

At The Toasted Frog, you can enjoy gourmet American food with global influences. It’s in Grand Forks, about 45 minutes away from Grafton. To start, try the Fried Cheesy Pickles, dill pickle spears wrapped in Havarti cheese and fried. The sweet potato fries come with chipotle aioli, and you can also choose truffle French fries tossed in white truffle oil, rosemary, grated parmesan cheese, and basil. The grilled buffalo wings come with celery and ranch or blue cheese sauce.

The Toasted Frog’s open-faced sandwiches are toasted in a wood-fired oven, and they come with a side of French fries, sweet potato fries, rice, or mashed potatoes. The Chicken Pesto Melt has grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, artichokes, red onions, pesto aioli, and gruyere cheese. With the Portobello Mushroom Melt, you’ll get grilled marinated Portobello mushrooms, basil aioli, and sauteed spinach.

You can order pizza made in the wood-fired oven as well. The Spinach and Wild Mushroom Pizza has garlic-infused olive oil, wild mushrooms, sauteed spinach, fresh basil, and mozzarella cheese. The BBQ Pork Pizza comes with pulled pork, chipotle barbecue sauce, caramelized onions, and mozzarella cheese, and the Chicken Pesto Pizza includes basil pesto, Kalamata olives, grilled chicken, and feta cheese. The fish tacos have grilled mahi-mahi, sour cream, avocado, slaw, tomato salsa, mango salsa, flour tortillas, and green onions, and the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Burger comes with Moroccan spices and cucumber yogurt sauce.

You can also choose an 8-ounce filet mignon with toasted pecan gorgonzola butter or a 7-ounce grilled salmon filet topped with toasted almonds and a Bordeaux cherry and raspberry compote. Try pear pie with caramel sauce and cinnamon ice cream or lemon cake with raspberry-infused goat cheese for dessert. You can visit Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

La Cantina

At La Cantina, you’ll get free chips and salsa with every meal. The sauces are homemade, and they use certified Angus steaks. Choose traditional or boneless wings with Teriyaki, Oriental Sesame, Honey Garlic, Garlic Parmesan, Honey BBQ, Asian Wow, Sweet Chili, Buffalo, Gang-Bustas, or Mango Habanero sauce. The one-third-pound burgers use 100% fresh beef, and the Spicy Jalapeno burger comes with fried jalapenos, chipotle mayonnaise, lettuce, guacamole, and pepper jack cheese. If you’re feeling really hungry, try the Legend. It has two patties, three bun slices, thousand island dressing, lettuce, pickles, onions, and American cheese.

With the La Cantina Burrito, you’ll get carne asada steak, fiesta potatoes, nacho cheese, red sauce, a flour tortilla, and sour cream. Steak, chicken, or shrimp fajitas are available. You can also choose enchiladas, chimichangas, or burritos with beef, beans, chicken, or seafood. For dessert, choose fried ice cream or churros with chocolate or raspberry sauce. La Cantina is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and it closes at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Frosty Fox

The Frosty Fox is a steakhouse, lounge, and event center in Grafton, and it has lots of great menu options. Pick the Combo Platter with onion rings, chicken bites, jalapeno poppers, mozzarella sticks, and battered mushrooms if you’re unsure what appetizer to choose. With the Pit Boss Platter, you’ll get barbecue ribs, chicken wings, smoked Polish sausage, and brisket.

You can choose a BLT, a chicken breast filet with cranberry sauce, or a sirloin steak sandwich on Texas toast for lunch. The Philly Steak Sandwich comes with shaved prime rib, sauteed onions, green peppers, Swiss cheese, and mushrooms. All these options come with potato, soup, or salad. For dinner, you can enjoy an 8-ounce sirloin steak with an 8-ounce lobster or an 8-ounce New York strip steak.

The kids’ menu includes macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and chicken strips. There’s also a kids’ salad bar. The Frosty Fox is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturdays, you can visit from 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Shing Ya Japanese Cuisine                               

Shing Ya Japanese Cuisine is in downtown Grand Forks, and it has a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. You can start with seaweed salad, squid salad, fried tofu, spicy curry balls, fried soft shell crab, or fried dumplings. Entrees include a Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, a Beef Bowl, Orange Chicken, Short Rib Beef BBQ, Sirloin Pork Cutlet, Japanese BBQ Pork Ramen, Miso Seafood Ramen, and more. 

Several delicious sushi options are available. The Shing Ya Roll is a spicy tuna roll with baby lobster on top, and the Kiss of Fire Roll has spicy tuna, jalapeno, and sriracha with spicy crab, cream cheese, and cucumber on top. The Fried Alaska Roll comes with salmon, crab meat, and asparagus with avocado on top, and the Fried Heart Attack Roll has jalapeno, spicy tuna, and cream cheese. The chef displays orders on plates artfully, making this a great place for people who enjoy sharing pictures of their meals on social media.

Shing Ya Japanese Cuisine opened in 2012, and it was one of America’s Best Restaurants in 2020. The menu items change often, so there’s always something new to try. You can visit Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, this place is open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. On Sunday, it’s open from noon to 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
