Concordia College Theater

Take in a show at Concordia College Theater, located on the campus of Concordia College, a private liberal arts institution in nearby Moorhead, Minnesota. This theater hosts shows which are directed and performed by the college’s faculty and students. Full-length performances, one-act plays, and single scenes are carried out throughout the year. Some shows are live-streamed, allowing you to enjoy them from the comfort of your own home. Additionally, the theater hosts a multitude of other events such as art shows, lectures, the Concordia Christmas Concert, and the National Book Awards. Act Up Theater

Support up-and-coming talent at the Act Up Theater, a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for high school and college students to perform in musical theater. The group performs at the Concordia College Theater, and its upcoming performances are available on its website. Ticket prices vary, and students can take advantage of special pricing.

Fargo Moorhead Community Theater

Since 1946, the Fargo Moorhead Community Theater (FMCT) has provided a variety of performance and educational opportunities to Fargo and the surrounding areas. FMCT’s playhouse boasts the thrust theater design, meaning its stage extends into the audience on three sides, providing an intimate viewing experience. The 2011 addition of the Katherine Kilbourne Pavilion provides additional space for smaller performances. The pavilion overlooks Island Park and provides a nice gathering spot for guests.

Every fall, FMCT invites playwrights of all ages to submit scripts for the 10 Minute Play Festival. Chosen submissions are announced in November and performances are held in January. The festival is a fun way to boost community engagement in the theater and provides a wide range of people with the rare opportunity to see their ideas come to life on stage. Check the FMCT website for scheduling and ticket information, and note that student, senior, and group discounts are available. In addition, memberships granting exclusive access to pre-sale and discounted tickets are available for purchase.

Fargo Theatre

Check out the Fargo Theatre, an art-house built in 1926, during your next night out. While it primarily features foreign and independent films, the theater also hosts concerts and other live events, including plays, comedy hours, and lectures, throughout the year. Located in downtown Fargo, this non-profit organization is on the National Register of Historic Places, and you may find it worth a visit simply to take in the art deco building’s striking interior.

Check the website for ticket prices and information regarding upcoming shows and films. In addition to tickets, Fargo Theatre sells memberships that provide a range of perks, including free movie passes. Tax-deductible donations supporting this historic institution are accepted as well.

Harwood Prairie Playhouse

Do you enjoy comedic theater? if so, you don’t want to miss the Harwood Prairie Playhouse in West Fargo. This organization strives to provide people with opportunities to experience comedic theater as both observers and participants. If you’re interested in learning more about how a local theater operates, this playhouse offers plenty of volunteer opportunities in addition to acting roles, giving you the chance to assist with concessions, ushering, and set construction.

Tickets are available for purchase online, in person at the box office, and via voicemail. Ticket cost is “pay what you can,” with a suggested donation of between $10 and $15, and tickets can be exchanged for other performances if you can’t attend on your scheduled date.

Bluestem Center for the Arts

Located just minutes away from Fargo in Moorhead, the Bluestem Center for the Arts showcases performing arts shows and concerts. As the home of the Trollwood Performing Arts School, the center boasts a unique indoor educational center, a 2,500 seat amphitheater, and several outdoor stages. Situated on the banks of the Red River of the North, you’ll enjoy river views, grassy meadows, and wooded areas. You may even catch a glimpse of some of the area’s wildlife during your visit. Featuring performances such as “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella,” the outdoor setting provides a unique, immersive way to see a show. Ticket prices vary according to seat assignment, and while refunds aren’t available, it’s possible to exchange your tickets for other performances should the need arise.

Theatre B

Don’t miss the performers at Theatre B who bring to life award-winning plays as well as new, untested works. Started in 2003, the theater group consists of 14 artists who have performed shows such as “A Christmas Carol,” a popular classic, and “Tim and Jacob Are Friends,” a unique, long-form improv act. Located in the renovated Lincoln Building in Moorhead, the theater’s unique space removes barriers between the audience and the performers, creating an immersive experience for everyone involved. Some performances are live-streamed, and ticket prices start at $5 and go up to $50.
