The 2021 Nissan Rogue features a front-wheel-drive system standard and offers AWD as an upgrade on every trim. Nissan has redesigned the Rogue for 2021. Its sporty exterior, modern interior, and performance engineering make the Rogue a fun and versatile SUV. When you factor in the AWD, there’s no adventure that’s out of bounds. Let’s take a closer look at the AWD system and some of the best features of the 2021 Nissan Rogue.

When you opt for AWD, you will benefit from an intelligent system that engages with a dial’s turn. At cruising speeds, the system sends all the power to the front wheels for optimal efficiency. With the AWD engaged, the system automatically sends power to the wheels that need it most to conquer challenging road surfaces.

You also get five selectable drive modes to suit driving conditions and your mood. Sport mode calibrates your steering and throttle for a more thrilling driving experience. Off-road mode tunes your Rogue to handle dirt, sand, and gravel. Snow mode dials in your traction control system to handle wintry weather. Auto mode balances efficiency with performance on your Rogue for normal driving conditions. The Eco mode optimizes your Rogue for maximum efficiency on those long trips.

Engine Power

A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine powers the Rogue. This engine has dual overhead cams and 16 valves with continuously variable valve timing control and direct injection technology. Nissan pairs this engine with their Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) for smooth, effortless shifting and power on demand. The CVT features a manual mode with an electronic shifter and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters for a more engaging driving experience. This powertrain delivers 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque.

Driver-Assist Technology

Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist with Navi-Link uses road-mapping technology to help you navigate the busy highways. ProPILOT Assist safely steers through off-ramps, adjusts your speed according to posted limits, keeps you centered in your lane, and maintains a preset distance in stop and go traffic, all without driver input.

The driver-assist suite Safety Shield 360 is standard with every Rogue trim. The suite includes six intelligent systems. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection uses forward-mounted sensors to scan the road ahead for possible hazards and alerting you to their presence. The system also warns you when you’re following too close to the car ahead. Should you fail to react, the system will engage emergency brake support to help mitigate or avoid a possible impact. The system recognizes pedestrians crossing and cyclists ahead and sends alerts.

Blind-spot warning uses sensors to alert you when vehicles enter your blind spots to the sides and rear of your Rogue. The rear cross-traffic alert uses the same sensors to alert you when a car approaches from the sides so you can back up with confidence. A rear automatic braking system engages if you fail to react to the rear cross-traffic alert.

The lane departure warning system tracks your Rogue while driving within marked lanes. When the system detects an unintentional drift, it sends a gentle vibration through the steering wheel to bring your attention back to the road. High beam assist automatically dims your high beams when it detects an approaching vehicle. When the vehicle passes, the system reactivates the high beams.

Curb Appeal

The newly-redesigned Rogue has a bold look. The front fascia’s double V-Motion grille framed by diamond-shaped LED headlights and daytime running lights give the Rogue a challenging stare. Recessed air curtains, a bulging hood, and an active grille shutter add aggressive style. The Rogue’s chiseled side-body replaces the softer curves of previous generations, giving it an athletic posture. The rear fascia’s D-pillar, a rear spoiler, and LED taillights complete the Rogue’s serious appearance.

Nissan offers four trims on the Rogue. The S, SV, and SL carryover in name from last year. Nissan added the Platinum trim for 2021. The base model, S comes with 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and body-color outside mirrors. The SV adds 18-inch wheels and heated outside mirrors with turn signal indicators. You have an option for a power liftgate on the SV. You get 19-inch wheels, LED fog lights, a motion-activated liftgate, roof rails, and a dual-panel moonroof on the SL and Platinum trims.

Interior Comfort

You enter the Rogue S with an integrated key with remote keyless entry and push-button start. You also get premium cloth upholstery on the six-way adjustable driver’s seat and four-way passenger seats. The 60/40 split-folding rear seat offers multiple cargo configurations. Cargo space totals 36.5 cubic feet behind the back seat, and a total of 74.1 cubic feet with the rear seat folded.

Infotainment runs through the floating 8-inch touch screen and features SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a four-speaker audio system. You can sync your smartphones for hands-free operation. Nissan’s advanced driver-assist display comes standard.

The SV upgrades to a dual-zone climate control system. Your key technology upgrades to the Nissan Intelligent Key that unlocks your Rogue as you approach with the key fob on your person. You can remotely start your Rogue and set the temperature. An eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat comes standard and you have the option for leatherette seating material and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Heated seats and steering wheel are options. The SV easily turns into a Wi-Fi hot spot and the audio system features six speakers.

The SL trim has a tri-zone climate control system, rear-window sunshades, and Nissan’s Divide-N-Hide cargo management system. Genuine leather seats with heating and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel are standard on the SL. The rear seat folds remotely.

The Platinum trim adds interior ambient lighting and quilted, semi-aniline leather seats that heat. Rear outboard seats are heated as well. Technology improvements include a digital dashboard. A 9-inch infotainment screen features door-to-door navigation with premium traffic and free trial subscriptions to various SiriusXM services. A head-up display projects critical driving data to the windshield before you. You also get an upgrade to a Bose premium sound system with a dual-driver woofer.
